Every parent wants their child to feel emotionally safe, avoid bullying, and learn the social skills needed to navigate the world.
At Eagle’s Nest we create a place where children of various socio-economic backgrounds, religions, races, cultures, learning needs, political beliefs, disabilities and gender expressions can thrive. We go beyond inclusion to create a community where each child feels seen, heard, and truly valued. By embracing diversity, making accommodations, and creating a safe space for all identities, we ensure that our camp is not just welcoming—it’s a place where children belong.
Belonging is more than just being included, celebrated or welcomed. When you belong you are valued, emotionally safe, and empowered to be yourself.
While inclusivity means inviting everyone in, belonging means weaving each person into the fabric of our community and building it together. It’s the difference between saying, “You can be here” and saying, “You belong here.” As Brené Brown beautifully puts it: “True belonging doesn’t require you to change who you are; it requires you to be who you are.” At Eagle’s Nest every child’s voice is heard and valued.
Research published in the “Journal of Youth Development” shows that a strong sense of belonging in youth settings like summer camps can lead to better mental health outcomes, increased self-esteem, and stronger social connections that continue into adulthood. Camp builds the emotional and social foundations kids need to navigate life confidently.
At Eagle’s Nest we take a proactive approach to creating an environment of kindness. We teach empathy, compassion, and social-emotional skills. While living together in cabins, sharing responsibilities and engaging in group activities, kids naturally develop social skills – they learn to communicate, resolve conflicts, and build friendships based on respect and understanding. By building and supporting a diverse community, we give children the opportunity to learn from each other’s different perspectives, helping them to grow into compassionate, socially adept individuals.
One of the greatest gifts we can give children is a sense of emotional safety. When children feel emotionally safe, they are free to explore who they are, try new things, and form meaningful connections with others. At Eagle’s Nest, children know they can express themselves without fear of judgment, which is essential for building self-confidence and resilience.
